LEARNING LOG WEEK 13

MATH:  I did writing bigger numbers in the 20s and 30s.  I learned about patterns and shapes.  There are patterns in real life like frogs.  They start out as eggs, then they're a tadpole, then they grow legs, then they lose their tail and become a frog.  Then the frog lays eggs and it starts over.  That's called a pattern.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  I read words and books.  I practiced flashcards.  I played BINGO with sounds of letters.

SCIENCE:  I learned about water.  We made a wheel that spins with water.  That's how you can use water to make electricity if it's hooked up to a generator.  The energy transfers to electricity.

ENGINEERING:  I built new things with my Legos.  Building this is fun.  I like trying out new things.

KARATE:  I had my karate test.  I had to do front kicks, side kicks and break a board.  I had my brother there helping me.  I did great!

LEARNING LOG WEEK 12

MATH: For math I counted in ones and tens again.  I used beans to go in the ones house and when you get to ten you move them to the tens house because only nine can live in the ones house.  I also drew patterns of shapes.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I read from my book.  I wrote a letter to my cousin, Miles.  My mom helped me spell some words.  I also played reading games with my brother.

SCIENCE: I learned about big ice called iceburgs.  We put a big piece of ice in a bowl of water and you could only see the top of the ice.  We also made a big piece of ice with dirt in it and let it slide down to see how glaciers move dirt around.

ENGINEERING: I built with my legos and with magformers.  I like building new things.

KARATE: I went to karate class.  I got to punch the bag and run around the room.  I can do a front stance and a front kick while blocking.

LEARNING LOG WEEK 11

MATH: For math I used beans to put in houses on ones, tens and hundreds.  You can only have 9 beans in one house then you have to move it over to the other house to make 10.  I also wrote numbers and watched math videos to count by 2s.

LANGUAGE ARTS: I read with my mom every day.  I practiced flashcards with words and sounds.  I read my favorite book, "The Bad Rat."  I did handwriting.

SCIENCE: We learned salt water is heavier than fresh water so it sinks to the bottom.  The fresh water floats on top.  I also learned how to clean pennies with vinegar and salt.

I also used a straw to blow wind on the water to make waves.  That's how waves are made on the ocean.

ENGINEERING: I built with my Legos.  I built a car and a house.  I love building things with my brother.

KARATE: I got to use my nun chucks in karate. I also got to run across the room and use my kicks.  When we line up we wait for Mr. Solomon to call our name before we run across the room.
